Kurogane Hayate and Mudou Ayana form a shinyuu pair at Tenchi Academy.

Relationship

Hayate did not know Ayana before Tenchi, and, at the time she proposes they become a shinyuu pair, had never even spoken to her. Fortunately for her, Ayana receives a separate impetus to rejoin the Hoshitori shortly thereafter, and ends up accepting her offer.

Hayate is extremely affectionate toward Ayana, which affection is generally requited with violence.

Hayate calls Ayana "Ayana." (This form of address, with no honorific, is inappropriate toward one's senior and would be considered rude.) Ayana calls Hayate "Kuro."
